Faro Mini-Guide

When you arrive at Faro International Airport, your first thoughts will probably be to pick up your luggage, hire car and get to wherever you are going. As a tourist destination Faro itself is often overlooked, but particularly as a winter destination a mini-break in Faro may help to cure the Northern European winter blues. The climate here in winter is very mild, with lots of sun and temperatures ranging between 15-19 degrees daytime max.

Here are some ideas of where to go in and around Faro:

Palace of Estói - 19th century palace on the outskirts of Faro with pretty gardens.

Faro Marina - a typical Portuguese marina with restaurants and cafes.

Faro Old Town - wander around the narrow streets and look out for the storks that nest on the rooftops.

Faro Beach - very busy in summer, parking may be a problem

Forum Algarve - shopping plaza with lots of clothes and food outlets

Alvor - quiet tourist village on the coast

Olhao - typical Portuguese fishing town, no beaches, you won´t find many Brits there

Loule - Busy market on Saturdays and is within easy range of Faro by bus or car.

Quarteira - the beaches here are among the best in the Algarve. Lots of tourist shops for gifts.
